Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) – Job Description

Schedule: 4x10
Shift: 8:30 PM – 7:00 AM
First-time Travelers: Accepted

 

Required Qualifications

• RPSGT (Registered Polysomnographic Technologist)
• RCP License (Respiratory Care Practitioner – CA)
• California State License
• BLS (AHA or ARC)
• Flu vaccination required (no declination/exemption)
• Minimum 2 years of experience in PSG and home sleep study scoring

 

Primary Responsibilities

• Perform sleep studies under the supervision of a sleep medicine physician.
• Set up, calibrate, and operate polysomnography equipment following AASM standards.
• Apply electrodes and sensors properly using published guidelines.
• Monitor sleep studies throughout the night, ensuring high-quality signal acquisition.
• Identify and correct artifacts, document events, and maintain detailed study notes.
• Score PSGs and home sleep studies according to AASM scoring rules.
• Coordinate logistics for home sleep testing (HST), including setup, patient instruction, and scoring.
• Collect and analyze patient data to determine appropriate testing parameters.
• Educate and orient patients on sleep testing procedures and PAP therapy basics.
• Communicate clinical findings, changes in patient status, or significant events to the supervising clinician.
• Ensure patient comfort, safety, and privacy during all testing procedures.
