General Surgery, part of Optum,  has an immediate opening for a friendly, patient focused and detailed oriented  Medical Receptionist   to join our team. The Medical Receptionist   is responsible for the completion of set processes and protocols. Works cooperatively with all members of the care team to support the vision and mission of the organization, deliver excellent customer service and adhere to Lean processes. Supports the teams in meeting financial, clinical and service goals.

Schedule:  Monday through Friday a 37.5-hour work week to be determined by the supervisor between the hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Greets patients, family members and guests with a friendly smile
  • Assist patients with signing in and completing registration
  • Schedule appointments for new or established patients
  • Collect copays
  • Obtain referrals
  • Answers incoming phone calls in a courteous and prompt manner; directs calls and takes messages
  • Enters and scans patient's demographic and insurance information into Epic
  • Verifies insurance eligibility and benefit information; informs patients of insurance benefits
  • Assists physician and clinical staff by coordinating follow up care for patients; schedules referral appointments for patients and obtains authorization for diagnostic testing
  • Sends patient records to primary care physician
  • Greets patients, family members and guests with a friendly smile
  • Assist patients with signing in and completing registration
  • Enters and scans patient's demographic and insurance information into Epic
  • Assists with other tasks as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
  • 1+ years of computer proficiency experience (multi-tasking through multiple applications including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word)
  • 1+ years of customer service experience 
  • 6 + months of healthcare related experience 
  • Ability to travel to other offices if needed for coverage 

  Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with an electronic health record
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of insurance carriers and managed care plans
  • 1+ years of experience working in medical office position performing duties such as scheduling appointments, checking patients in/out, insurance verification, collecting co-pays, and maintaining medical records

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $16.00 to $27.69 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
