Position Summary:
As a Recovery Coach at Amare you will play a vital role in providing essential recovery support services to individuals seeking assistance in overcoming substance use disorders at our Wood River office. You will employ various strategies, including recovery coaching, peer support, employment coaching, and facilitating linkages and warm handoffs to clinical services like residential treatment and medical stabilization. The ideal candidate for this position will have a strong understanding of motivational interviewing skills, recovery capital, and the recovery process.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1 year of lived experience in recovery (required).
  • Bachelors degree in social work, psychology, substance use disorder counseling, or equivalent experience in addiction recovery (preferred).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of motivational interviewing techniques and the ability to apply them effectively.
  • Willingness to obtain Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) certification and complete continuing education (CEUs).
  • Understanding of trauma informed care, crisis prevention, and suicide prevention.

Organizational and Administrative Skills

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize them effectively.

Maintain accurate and confidential documentation

Basic computer skills and familiarity with electronic health record systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments to identify participants strengths, needs and barriers to recovery.
  • Employment coaching: assist participants in identifying employment opportunities, develop job-seeking skills and accessing vocational training or educational resources.
  • Be a beacon of hope for individuals who are in the early stages of change and guide them in the recovery process.
  • Provide recovery support services, including one-on-one peer mentoring and recovery coaching.
  • Assist participants in creating and maintaining recovery management plans.
  • Connect participants to clinical services, treatment, or other professional resources when needed.
  • Build rapport with participants to foster trust, support, and motivation for change.
  • Commit to ethical practices by adhering to the Illinois CPRS and CRSS Code of Ethics.
  • Engage in community outreach, coalition building, and advocacy for unhoused individuals.
  • Promote recovery capital by supporting participants in building resources, relationships, and skills.
  • Deliver trauma-informed and culturally competent care.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to build positive, supportive relationships while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Knowledge of multiple recovery pathways such as 12-step foundation, SMART Recovery, Refuge Recovery, LifeRing and others, including medication assisted recovery, harm reduction and person-centered approaches.
  • Effective communication, crisis intervention, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to fostering stability, resilience, and empowerment in recovery journeys.
  • Empathy, active listening, and non-judgmental attitude when working with individuals in recovery.
